BOOK BANK

The Richmond Region Book Bank is a collaboration. It’s the community’s Book Bank.

•The Greater Richmond Chamber through its Success By 6 Initiative provides management and oversight.

•The Richmond Public Library provides storage space.

  • Local businesses and organizations provide books and funding.

  • Community service volunteers help sort books.

  • Couriers help deliver books.

  • Service providers who serve children at risk of not reading at grade level distribute free books in Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and Richmond.

Since 2001, over 130,000 children’s books have been distributed free to over 200 service providers in the Richmond region.

  • 22% of children in the Richmond Region cannot read at grade level by 3rd grade.
  • 1 of every 4 recognize letters on their first-day of kindergarten, don’t know yellow from blue, and can’t hold up the right number of fingers when asked their age.

If your business, church, school or organization would like to conduct a book drive, contact the Book Bank today. (804) 343-READ or email: bookbank@grcc.com

They can provide book drop boxes, coordinate pick-up and see to it that the books make it into the hands of children who really need them. You can also work with the Book Bank - conducting a book drive for a specific school or service provider of your choice.
